Gold foil

Gold foil stamping presses a bright metallic gold film onto the box with a heated die, leaving a mark that catches shop lighting in a way ink cannot. It is the traditional luxury accent for spirits, chocolate and celebration packaging. Used once and small it looks expensive; across large areas it looks loud, and brands that want restraint usually choose champagne foil.

When to choose it, and when not to

Choose gold for spirits, chocolate, holiday and wedding packaging, and anywhere the box sits under bright retail lighting and needs to be seen from a distance. On kraft or a deep navy or black wrap, a single gold mark does more than a second ink color would.

Skip it on large solid areas and on brands built on restraint, where bright gold reads as loud. Champagne foil is the quieter metallic and photographs without glare; a blind deboss gives a premium mark with no shine at all.

Questions about gold foil

Gold or champagne foil?

Gold is bright and traditional and strong under shop lighting. Champagne is paler and warmer, quieter on the shelf and easier to photograph without glare. Pick gold for celebration, champagne for restraint.

Can gold foil go on kraft?

Yes. Gold foil is one of the best ways to add a highlight to kraft, which does not take spot UV and dulls bright ink.

How big should a gold foil mark be?

Small. One logo or one product name usually looks better than foil spread across a panel, and large solid foil areas tend to look shiny rather than refined.

Does foil change the lead time?

Each product page states its lead time from proof approval. Foil needs a die made for your artwork, and the quote confirms the timing with your finishes included.
