Soft-touch lamination
Soft-touch lamination is a thin velvet-matte plastic film bonded over the printed board, warm and slightly grippy in the hand. It deepens dark colors and makes foil and blind deboss look sharper, which is why it sits on skincare, fragrance and rigid gift boxes. It marks more easily than other finishes, so it belongs on boxes that are handled gently or shipped inside an outer.

When to choose it, and when not to
Choose soft-touch for boxes that are picked up and judged by feel: a skincare carton, a fragrance box, a book style or magnetic rigid box, a mailer that travels inside a plain outer. It is the finish that makes an 18pt carton feel more expensive than its board.
Skip it on mailers and cartons that ship loose through a parcel network, especially in dark colors, because rub marks show. Matte aqueous coating gives a similar flat look, resists scuffs and keeps the board recyclable as paper. For photography and saturated color, gloss lamination is the brighter option.

Does soft-touch lamination scratch easily?
It marks more easily than gloss or matte aqueous, especially on dark solid colors. That is fine on a carton or rigid box handled with care, and a problem on a mailer that ships loose.
Soft-touch or matte aqueous for a carton?
Soft-touch if the carton is a premium shelf piece and feel matters. Matte aqueous if it ships on its own, needs to resist scuffs, or should stay recyclable as paper.
Can I add foil on top of soft-touch?
Yes. Foil, blind deboss and spot UV all go on over soft-touch, and the contrast against the velvet surface is the reason many brands choose it.
Is a soft-touch carton recyclable?
Once a plastic film is laminated on, recyclability depends on the local facility. We do not print a recycling claim on a laminated carton without checking it first.
