When to choose it, and when not to
Choose a magnetic box when the box will be kept, shown, or opened in front of someone. It photographs well, the close feels deliberate, and the flat-opening lid gives you a second printed surface inside. It is the box for fragrance, jewelry, spirits, tech and gift sets.
Choose a two-piece box instead when the product is heavy, because a magnet holds a lid, not a load. Choose a sleeve and tray carton when you need the box to ship flat and be assembled at your bench, since a rigid box arrives assembled and costs more to freight.

Questions people ask
How strong is the magnet, and will it hold in shipping?
Strong enough to hold the lid shut through a carrier, not strong enough to hold a heavy product against gravity. We use neodymium magnets sunk into the board under the wrap. For boxes over 10 inches wide we fit two. If the box will be shipped on its own rather than inside a mailer, tell us and we add a belly band or a tuck flap.
Can I print inside the lid?
Yes. The inside of the lid is the second surface a buyer sees, and it is where a message, a pattern or a color block does the most work. It is printed on the same wrap before assembly, so there is no extra process and no extra lead time.
What is the difference between 1000, 1200 and 1500 gsm board?
Thickness and stiffness. 1000 gsm is about 0.06 in and suits small boxes under 6 inches. 1200 gsm is about 0.08 in and is the standard for most rigid work. 1500 gsm is about 0.1 in and gives a heavy, expensive feel for spirits, watches and tech.
Do you make a prototype before the run?
Yes, on request: a white unprinted prototype, so you can check the fit with your real product before print. Timing is confirmed in your quote. Every order includes a complimentary digital proof and dieline, and a printed proof is available on request.
Can the insert hold a bottle upright?
Yes. A die-cut paperboard insert with a collar holds a bottle upright and stops it moving. For heavier glass we use a two-layer insert or foam. Send us the bottle's dimensions or a photo beside a coin and we size it.
Are magnetic boxes recyclable?
The board and paper wrap are recyclable as mixed paper. The magnet is not, and should be removed first. We can supply the box without a magnet and with a ribbon or tuck closure if full recyclability matters to your brand.

Both close with a magnet in the lid flap. The magnetic closure box arrives assembled, on 1000, 1200 or 1500 gsm board, with the widest choice of wraps and inserts, from 200 units in 12 to 14 business days after proof. The collapsible rigid box is 1200 gsm board with pre-glued side panels that ship flat and snap up at your bench in about 10 seconds, from 200 units in 10 to 14 business days. If storage and inbound freight are the problem, go collapsible. If the box carries real weight or needs the stiffest corners, the assembled box.
