Ribbon handle gift bag
Art paper, matte200 minimum · 12 to 14 business daysA ribbon handle gift bag is a small matte art paper bag with a wide satin or grosgrain ribbon threaded through the top and tied inside, so the ribbon is closure and handle at once. We produce them on 190 to 210 gsm board from 200 units in 12 to 14 business days after proof. The common sizes are 5 by 3 by 7 or 7 by 4 by 9 inches.
When to choose it, and when not to
Choose a ribbon handle bag when the product is small and the bag is the wrapping. A 50 ml fragrance, a pair of earrings in a card, a single candle, a set of macarons. The ribbon closes the top so nothing shows until it is untied, which is the whole point. It suits boutiques, hotels and wedding favors where the bag is handed over rather than carried home from a parking lot.
Choose a laminated euro tote when the contents are a full-size rigid box, because a ribbon top will not close over it and the bag will sag. Choose a two-piece lid and base box when the gift should sit on a shelf afterward, since a bag is opened once and put aside.

Materials that suit it
Questions people ask
What ribbon widths do you offer?
5/8 and 1 in are stock, in satin or grosgrain. 5/8 in suits bags under 5 inches wide. 1 in is the better choice above that, because it closes the top more fully and the bow sits flatter. About 30 stock colors are held; a dye-to-match ribbon adds around 7 business days.
Can the ribbon be the closure and the handle at once?
Yes, that is the standard build. One length of ribbon runs through two eyelets on each face, is knotted inside, and when you pull the loops up the top gathers shut. If you want a bow on the front instead, we thread a second short ribbon through a slot near the top edge.
Will the bag stand up on its own?
On 210 gsm laminated board with the 1200 gsm bottom board fitted, yes, at every stock size. On 190 gsm the two smallest sizes stand fine, but the 9 by 4.5 by 11 wants the heavier board. We say which one we recommend on the proof.
Can you flock the bag?
Velvet flocking on the outside is available on the two smallest sizes, where the panels are small enough to flock evenly. It adds about 4 business days. Flocking the inside face only, so it shows when the ribbon is untied, is a lower-cost way to get the same feel and works at every size.
Do I need tissue?
For a gift bag, yes. Printed 17 gsm tissue folded over the product is what stops the contents showing through the gathered top and is what the recipient sees first. We can supply plain or printed tissue cut to the bag, or a paperboard sleeve if the product is a small box that should sit square.
How is the ribbon handle gift bag different from the laminated euro tote?
The ribbon bag closes. A wide satin or grosgrain ribbon is drawn through the top and tied, so it is the handle and the closure at once, on 190 or 210 gsm laminated matte art paper with flocking as an option. The laminated euro tote is open at the top with rope or ribbon handles, a bottom board and a turned edge, built to carry heavier boxed purchases. Both start at 200 units; the ribbon bag runs 12 to 14 business days after proof and the tote 10 to 14 business days. Small gifts that should stay hidden suit the ribbon bag.
