When to choose it, and when not to

Choose a counter display when you want to control how a small product is shown at the point of sale rather than leave it to the retailer's shelf. Lip balms, energy bars, sachets, pens, small candles, chocolate bars and trial size cosmetics all sell from one. The header does the talking at eye level while the tray keeps the product tidy and easy to grab. Retailers accept them because they arrive flat and fold in under a minute.

Choose a hanging tab carton on the individual product if the retailer sells from peg hooks and has no counter space, which is the case in most chain pharmacies. Choose a corrugated shipping box with a tear-away front if the display must also be the shipper and hold heavy stock, since 24pt SBS is a presentation board, not a freight board.

Questions people ask

How many products fit in a counter display?

Twelve lip balms stand in two rows in a 6 by 4 inch tray. Twelve 3 ounce chocolate bars lean in a 9 by 6 tray with a riser. Twenty four sachets or energy bars fit a 12 by 8 tray in three rows. Send us the product size and how many you want out at once and we size the tray, then draw a divider if the rows need holding.

Does it arrive assembled?

No. It ships flat in bundles of 25 with a one page folding guide, and a shop assistant can fold one in under a minute. The tray corners self-lock and the header folds up and tabs into the back wall. No glue and no tape. If your retailer insists on assembled, we can ship them made up in a corrugated outer at a higher freight cost.

How tall can the header be?

Up to about 8 inches on 24pt SBS before it starts to lean under shop lighting. Most work is 4 to 6 inches. Over 8 inches we double the header or move the whole display to E-flute corrugated. The header is printed both sides, so the back can carry ingredients or a second message facing the staff.

Can the display double as the shipping box?

Not on 24pt SBS. It is a presentation board and it will crush under a stack in a truck. For a display that ships loaded with stock and opens on the counter, ask us for the corrugated version with a tear-away front on E-flute or B-flute. That is a different dieline and a separate quote, so tell us early.

What should I print on the header?

One idea, large, at eye level: the product name and one line on why someone should pick it up. A price tag holder or a clear zone for the shop's own sticker helps, because retailers will stick one on anyway. Keep the front of the tray for the brand and use the header back, which faces staff, for the reorder code.

How is the counter display carton different from a PDQ display?

Board and load. The counter display carton is an open tray on 24pt SBS with a printed header rising 4 to 8 inches from the back wall, sized for six to twenty four small, light products beside a till. The PDQ display is E-flute corrugated with a litho-laminated face that pops up without tools and is sized to carry 12 to 48 units, so it handles heavier stock. The carton starts at 200 units in 10 to 14 business days after proof, the PDQ at 200 units in 10 to 12 business days. Lip balm and small cosmetics suit the carton; bottles, jars and anything sold by the dozen suit the PDQ.
