When to choose it, and when not to
Choose a hanging tab carton when the product will sell from a peg hook in a hardware store, pharmacy, pet shop or convenience store. Batteries, cables, phone accessories, hair ties, fishing lures, small tools and trial size cosmetics all hang. The tab doubles as a billboard that reads above the pack, and a euro slot fits every standard peg in North America so the buyer does not need to change fixtures.
Choose a straight tuck end carton if the product sits on a shelf rather than a peg, since a tab that is never used is just wasted board and a snag point in shipping. Choose a counter display carton if you want to control the presentation yourself with a header and a tray rather than rely on the retailer's peg wall.

Questions people ask
Euro slot or round hole?
Euro slot for anything sold through chain retail, because it fits both single and double prong hooks and the pack cannot rotate on the peg. A round 1/4 in hole is fine for a single peg in an independent shop and looks cleaner on a small tab. A delta hole is the compromise: it takes a single peg well and a double peg acceptably.
How much weight can the tab hold?
With the tab doubled over and glued, about 1 pound on 18pt SBS and about 1.5 pounds on 20pt. That covers nearly anything sold on a peg. If the product is heavier, or the carton is more than about 8 inches tall so it swings, we move the hang hole into the top panel itself and reinforce it with a second die-cut piece.
Can the tab fold flat for shipping?
Yes. On the standard design the tab is part of the back panel and folds over the top to lock into the front, so it ships flat with the rest of the carton and stands up when the carton is erected. If you need the carton to also sit flat on a shelf, the tab is scored so it folds back out of the way.
Can I combine it with a window?
Yes, and it is a common pairing on peg sold products. A window in the front panel shows the product and the tab above it carries the brand. Keep the window at least 3/8 in below the top fold so it does not weaken the tab. The window is PET film glued inside and adds nothing to the lead time.
What size is a standard peg hook?
Most retail peg hooks are 1/4 inch in diameter and set 1 or 2 in apart on a double hook. A euro slot is 1/4 in tall and about 1 1/8 in wide, which fits both spacings. If your retailer uses a different fixture, send us a photo of the peg wall and we match the slot to it on the dieline.
How is a hanging tab carton different from a blister card?
Both hang on a peg hook. The hanging tab carton is a closed box on 18 or 20pt SBS or kraft with a doubled tab punched with a euro slot, round hole or delta hole, so the product is enclosed and the four panels carry print. A blister card is a flat 18pt C1S backer coated to heat-seal a clear plastic blister, so the product is seen rather than boxed. The carton starts at 200 units in 10 to 12 business days after proof; blister cards at 1,000 units in 8 to 10 business days. If the buyer needs to see and touch the shape, the blister card. If the product needs a box, the carton.
