Cookie box
18pt SBS200 minimum · 10 to 12 business daysA cookie box is a folding paperboard carton, either a straight tuck end or a lock-corner box with a lid, sized to a stack or a single layer of cookies. We produce them on 18pt food-contact SBS from 200 units, in 10 to 12 business days after proof. The common sizes are 7 by 5 by 2 and 8 by 8 by 2.5 inches.
When to choose it, and when not to
Choose a cookie box when the product is sturdy enough to sit in a stack or a single layer without a tray: shortbread, biscotti, sandwich cookies, brownies, bars. The tuck end style is the cheapest way to put a brand on a dozen cookies and it stands on a shelf. The lock-corner style opens from the top, holds a wider single layer and takes a window. Both ship flat and fold in a few seconds.
Choose a bakery box with a window for iced or decorated cookies that need to lie flat and be seen, since a tuck end carton is loaded from the end. Choose a kraft mailer box when the cookies ship on their own by carrier, because a paperboard carton is not built to survive a parcel network without an outer.

Materials that suit it
Questions people ask
Do I need the grease-resistant coating?
For shortbread, butter cookies and anything with more than about 20 percent butter, yes, or the box will show a spot within a day. For dry biscotti and sandwich cookies you can skip it. A folded parchment liner does the same job on a smaller run and lets you keep the plain board.
Tuck end or lock corner?
Tuck end is a single glued carton that opens at one end and stands on a shelf. It suits a stack of cookies in a cellophane sleeve. Lock corner opens from the top like a bakery box, holds a single layer and takes a window in the lid. Tuck end costs less to fold and to ship; lock corner shows the product.
Is the board safe for food contact?
Yes. The SBS is virgin fiber and food-contact grade, and we leave the inside of the box unprinted. All ink, lamination and coating sit on the outside. Where cookies sit directly on the board with no liner, tell us and we keep the spec to the plain or grease-resistant food-contact board only.
How many cookies fit?
Depends on the cookie. A 7 by 5 by 2 inch box takes a dozen 2.5 inch cookies in two stacks. An 8 by 8 by 2.5 inch box takes nine 3 inch cookies in a single layer. Send us the cookie diameter and height, or a photo beside a coin, and we size the box.
Can the box ship by mail on its own?
Not on its own. An 18pt carton will arrive dented from a parcel network. Put it inside a kraft mailer with a little void fill, or ask us to make a corrugated mailer sized to the cookie box. For hand delivery and shelf sales the carton on its own is fine.
How is the cookie box different from a cookie bag?
The cookie box is a folding carton on 18pt food-contact SBS, a straight tuck end or a lock-corner box with a lid, sized to a stack or a layer, with an optional grease-resistant coating, from 200 units in 10 to 12 business days after proof. A cookie bag is a printed laminate bag, flat for a single cookie or stand up for a small pack, heat sealed to hold freshness, from 500 units in 8 to 10 business days. Gift boxes and dozens suit the box; single cookies by the register suit the bag.
