Bakery box with window
Grease resistant SBS200 minimum · 10 to 12 business daysA bakery box with a window is a lock-corner paperboard box with a clear PET film glued behind a die-cut opening in the lid, so pastries show without being handled. We produce them on 18pt food-contact SBS with a grease-resistant coating, from 200 units, in 10 to 12 business days after proof. Common sizes are 8 by 8 by 4 and 10 by 10 by 5 inches.
When to choose it, and when not to
Choose a window bakery box when the product sells on sight: cookies, pastries, doughnuts, cupcakes, a small cake. The window does the job a sample tray does at a market stall or a counter, and the lock corners fold up in a few seconds without glue. It suits bakeries that hand boxes across a counter and brands that ship dry baked goods inside a mailer. The coating keeps butter from showing through for a day of normal handling, which is what most pastry needs.
Choose a cake box instead for anything taller than 5 inches or heavier than about 3 pounds, because a lid loses stiffness where film replaces board. Choose a cookie box without a window when the product ships in a poly mailer with no outer carton, since a PET window scuffs and can crack in transit.

Questions people ask
Is the board safe for direct contact with food?
Yes. We use virgin fiber SBS that is food-contact grade for dry and fatty baked goods, and the inside of the box is left unprinted. Ink and coating sit on the outside only. If you are packing anything wet or hot, tell us, because the board is rated for baked goods at room temperature, not for soups or sauces.
Will grease soak through the box?
The grease-resistant coating slows it down a great deal. A buttery croissant or a doughnut will sit in the box for a day of normal handling without a mark on the outside. It is not a full barrier. Oily food left for several days, or anything still hot and steaming, will eventually show. For those, a liner sheet of parchment inside helps.
What shapes can the window be?
Any shape that can be die cut: a rectangle, an oval, a heart, a circle, your logo outline. Keep at least half an inch of board around the window so the lid stays stiff. On boxes over 10 inches wide we suggest a window no more than 60 percent of the lid area.
Does the box arrive assembled?
No, it ships flat in bundles of 50 and folds up at your counter in about 5 seconds. The lock corners hold without glue or tape. If you would rather receive them assembled, ask, but it roughly triples the shipping volume, so folding them yourself is usually the better deal.
Can I print inside the lid?
We advise against it on a food box. The inside of the lid faces the food, and we keep that surface unprinted so the box stays food-contact grade. Print your message on the outside of the lid, on the front panel, or on a card that sits on top of the parchment.
How is the bakery box with window different from the pastry box?
The bakery box with window is a lock-corner 18pt food-contact SBS box with a grease-resistant coating inside, a clear PET window glued behind the lid, and a tuck-in lid with no glue or tape, from 200 units in 10 to 12 business days after proof. The pastry box is a food-grade SBS carton with a greaseproof coated interior, a window optional rather than standard, and a tuck top or a tray with a separate lid, from 300 units in 8 to 10 business days. If the window is the point, start with the bakery box; if you want a solid lid or a two-piece build, the pastry box.
