White vs kraft mailer box: how to choose for your brand
Pick white when the artwork needs true color, photography or pale shades, and pick kraft when you want a natural look, print in one or two darker colors, or ship boxes loose where scuffs would show. Both are the same E-flute corrugated mailer at Tria, from 200 units in 10 to 12 business days after proof; the white box simply carries a bleached top liner. White usually costs a little more per box, and your quote shows the difference at your quantity.

What actually differs
The structure is identical: one-piece E-flute corrugated at 32 ECT, a tuck-in lid with side locking tabs, shipped flat. The difference is the outer liner. A kraft mailer box has a natural brown liner. A white mailer box has a bleached white top liner, and can be white inside too. Our eco kraft mailer goes further: unbleached liners on both faces, water-based ink and no coating at all.

Color is the deciding factor
Printing ink is translucent. On white board, the white shows through and colors read as designed. On kraft, the brown shows through and every color shifts darker and warmer. Black, navy, deep green and dark brown look excellent on kraft. Pastels, pale pink, light gray and most photographs do not. We show the ink on kraft in your digital proof rather than on a white screen, so you see it before it prints.
If the brand palette is pale or photographic and you still want a natural feel, consider a white box with a kraft-colored print, or a kraft outside with a printed white inside, so the reveal carries the color.
What each one says about the brand
Kraft says small batch, handmade, natural. It is right for candles, soap, coffee, plants and workwear, and it forgives the scuffs of a loose parcel. White says considered and retail ready. It is right for cosmetics, skincare, electronics and any brand whose identity depends on a specific color. Neither is more premium by default; a one color kraft box with a sharp logo beats a crowded full color white box every time.
Scuffing and finishes
White shows transit marks. A matte aqueous coating, standard on our full color white mailers, helps a lot. Soft-touch lamination on white feels luxurious but marks more easily, so we suggest it only for boxes that ship inside an outer. Our eco kraft mailer is left fully uncoated, which suits the look and keeps it simple to recycle.
Cost and recycling
White usually costs a little more per box because of the bleached liner, and white on both faces a little more again. How much depends on size, quantity and print, so compare both on one quote. Both recycle as mixed paper as long as they are not film laminated; a soft-touch film changes that. Kraft is the simpler box to describe honestly, which is why we suggest it to brands that want to print a recycling line. See our eco mailer box claims guide before you do.

Questions people ask
Is a kraft mailer box cheaper than a white one?
Usually a little, because the white box carries a bleached liner, and a white inside adds a little more. The gap depends on size, quantity and print. Ask for both on one quote and you will see the real difference at your quantity.
Can I print pale or bright colors on kraft?
They will print darker and warmer, and pale colors largely disappear, because ink is translucent and the brown board shows through. For pale or bright artwork, use the white mailer, or a kraft outside with a printed white inside.
Does a white mailer box show scuffs?
Some, in transit. A matte aqueous coating helps and is standard on our full color white mailers. If boxes ship loose without an outer carton, kraft or a darker print hides marks better.
Is kraft more sustainable than white?
Both are the same E-flute and both recycle as mixed paper when not film laminated. Kraft skips the bleached liner, and our eco kraft mailer adds water-based ink and no coating, which makes it the simplest box to make a recycling claim on.
