How label size is calculated
For a cylindrical container (bottle, jar, can), the usable label width is the container’s outer circumference times the desired wrap percentage:
Label width = π × OD × (wrap% ÷ 100)
OD is the outer diameter of the container in inches (or mm, cm). For a full wraparound on a 2.5 in diameter jar: 3.14159 × 2.5 = 7.854 in circumference. At 100% wrap, the artwork width is 7.854 in. The print file adds 0.125 in bleed on each side, giving a 8.104 in × (height + 0.25 in) print file.
For a flat panel label, there is no circumference calculation: artwork width equals finished label width, and the print file simply adds bleed.
Wraparound overlap
A full wraparound label needs at least 0.125 in of overlap at the seam so the adhesive tail laps over the leading edge securely. This means the visible artwork area ends 0.125 in before the full circumference. If your artwork fills the full width, there will be 0.125 in of overlap where the design repeats at the seam: plan for this in your layout by placing a clear or low-detail zone at the tail.
Bleed requirements
Standard bleed for labels is 0.125 in (3.175 mm) on all four sides. Background colors, textures, and full-bleed images must extend to the bleed line. Text, logos, and critical design elements should sit at least 0.125 in inside the trim edge (the safe zone). Files submitted without bleed may result in white borders at the edge after trimming.

Measure your specific container with calipers: OD varies by manufacturer and fill level. Tapered containers (frustum shape) use the OD at the center of the label area.
